back at home

My friend was nice enough to let me crash at his place for the past 9 days while the siblings were on Spring Break holiday, some days were nice, others not so much.  All I can really say is that I'm glad I didn't have to worry about dishes or trash or being a taxi for the sibs.  Tomorrow is back to the same old routine, but at least I have the day off, and I guess it'll be nice to sleep in my own bed again, you can't exactly sprawl out on a couch.  I will admit that the couch was indeed comfy, but a bed is always better after a while.  Last night I bowled on the Wii, I bowled a 194, now if I can only do that in real life I would be happy.  I love playing games on the Wii and as soon as I am able (probably not for a while) I am going to get one.  Anyway I should get to sleep, I have to wake up early to get the siblings ready for the start of school again, just a little over 2 months though until summer vacation for them, I so can't wait.

the madness has begun

The NCAA tournament started a few hours ago and there hasn't been any surprises yet.  All the top seeds have won so far, I however picked a lower seed to win one game so I'm pissed about that.  So far out of 7 games that have been played I have correctly picked 6 winners.  I hope the trend continues, I would love to stick it to a friend of mine who beat me the past couple of years picking winners.

Spring Break is almost over and that saddens me, this week went entirely way too fast.  Thankfully school is going to end in a little more than a month so that helps.  Also if my co-worker gets this job she interviewed for then that may help me out immensely, so lets all hope and pray that she gets it.

Anyway it's almost time for me to leave so I am going to go and enjoy my 4 day weekend, so until next time take care of yourselves.

birthday aftermath and basketball tournaments

I am yawning like crazy today, probably due to the fact that it's Monday and I'm at work.  The good thing is this day has gone by fairly quickly and I should be out of here in less than 2 hours.  I finished all the work that needed to be done and then some so that I can rest and relax the remainder of the week.

This past weekend was a lot of fun, hung out with friends and was just being silly.  I put on a Darth Vader mask and started saying stupid things sounding like him, that was cool.  Of course I felt the effects of it Sunday morning, but nevertheless it was fun.

The NCAA tournament begins Thursday and I am excited, I just hope that this year I pick the majority of the winners.  Last year there were major upsets and I only correctly guessed 24% which pissed me off to no end, but it's a new year and I am feeling great about this.

Anyway I should get back to work, I'm sure there is something that can occupy my time for the rest of this workday.

twenty-seven

Another year has come and gone and I get a little older and a little wiser supposedly. Yes today is my birthday and with that comes partying and watching college basketball (I love this time of year). I went out with some friends earlier to celebrate a day early and it was a lot of fun, actually the entire day was a lot of fun. I got to play games on the Wii, that was interesting, and yes bowling was really cool, I didn't even suck at it that much. After I wake up later I'll be watching the UH-Memphis game hoping we (UH) pull it out and win so that we'll go to the NCAA tournament. Tonight I am going to a party at a friends place to celebrate a lot of birthdays (mine, theirs which is on Tuesday, and Rob's which was yesterday). Anyway I'm tired and since I don't have to work tomorrow I can actually sleep in, so I am going to do just that.

adventures in driving: part 2

I write part 2 in the subject line because part 1 was captured back on livejournal.  Back then I was reteaching myself how to drive after a 5 year hiatus, now it is the brother that is learning how to drive (he turned 18 last week and so now he wants to get his license).  I let him drive home from his work last night (8 mile - 15 min drive) and he wasn't too terribly bad but I was still scared mostly because if anything happened it was on me.  He is learning though, listening to me and learning from my mistakes when I was his age and I'm sure that he'll pass his test with flying colors after a few more lessons.  I just hope he doesn't expect to drive my car every day, because that just is not going to happen!

trying to survive the week

The library is crazy this week, midterms are here and students are frantically trying to catch up on work that they should have done weeks ago.  I am just trying to survive until Friday, that's when the real fun begins for it will be Spring Break and then my birthday.  I am also going to enjoy the madness that is college basketball at this time of year, I cannot wait to make out my brackets, I am going to have a pen and paper ready Sunday night when the teams are announced.  Not much else is going on, the bosses are gone until Thursday so tomorrow we are going to have to piece things together, but that shouldn't be too hard.  Anyway a great game is on so time to turn my attention to that.

my night at the theatre

Last night I went to see a play called Burn This, I really enjoyed it, I implore all of you who live in Houston and love (or at least like theatre) to check it out.  I went because I know the director and the assistant stage manager and I have to tell you they both did a wonderful job with this play.  For more information about the play and the price of tickets go to http://www.u-p.org.  I would write more about the play and the talented cast that they had, but I'm half-asleep and I suck at writing so I'm going to link you to the Houston Press' review of it.

good start to the new month

March is here and already it is shaping up to be a great month which makes me happy.  How do I know you may ask?  First of all work hasn't been overbearing today, secondly I overslept but somehow was able to get up and still do everything I needed to do (shower, brush teeth, etc) without being late.  Lastly it is the birthday month, I turn 27 in nine days and with that comes days off and money!  Also I'll get to hang out with friends, even an old friend who I haven't seen in almost a year.

I'm debating whether or not to go to Austin during Spring Break to visit my friend Catherine.  She wouldn't mind me hanging at her place while visiting, but she'll be working the entire week and I wouldn't have a chance to hang out with her.  It would be nice just to get out the city though, I figure I could work Spring Break week and save up the vacation hours and then go visit Catherine sometime during the summer.  I'm still debating though, I'll come up with something by the end of the week.

Other things, I'm going to see my friend Karen's play tomorrow night, from what I hear it's getting rave reviews.  Probably will need to leave work early to do so maybe, who knows.  Anyway I better start on the supply list for the month, going to need to order things soon.

geek moment: installing RAM

I did some surgery on my laptop last night, nothing major, just installed an extra gig of RAM in it so that it'll run faster.  I was going to wait until Tuesday so that my friend Justin could do it since he works in Systems, but I figured since I've installed a hard drive in my previous laptop that installing RAM in my current one shouldn't be too hard.  I gathered all the tools needed and made sure nothing was around that could cause static electricity, I opened up the case and popped in the RAM upgrade and figured I was done...wrong!  When I turned on the laptop it still had me at 504mb of RAM, thus making me worried that I messed up big time and that my RAM wouldn't work at all.  I reopened the case to discover that the module wasn't in all the way which caused the computer to not recognize it, so I took out the RAM memory and then reinserted it.  This time when I turned on the laptop it said new memory added, success!  I now have 1.49gb of RAM in my laptop and programs are running faster.  The only downside to my laptop is that the chipset it came with won't support the Aero Glass feature in Vista, but I can live without it.

daydreaming

Here I sit at my desk on a foggy Thursday morning with nothing to do but my mind wander around.  As I am doing so I remind myself as to how lucky I am as to have a boss that doesn't care that I daydream as long as the work gets done first.  I have no idea where I was going with that, I guess that's what happens when the mind wanders.  In all actuality I do have work, well not work but training for work (it's complicated) so I should concentrate on that.  I guess before starting I should get some things to aid me, specifically sugar and caffeine.
